Formula 1: Against The Odds

Strategy Points to Glock

with 4 comments

Timo Glock has made up a net forty-nine positions in ten Grand Prix so far this season. This has been achieved through a strategy of qualifying outside of the top-ten, fuelling heavily and then picking off rivals as they stop for fuel. It makes interesting reading to note that Glock has gained points in 60% of his races this season, four times from a grid position outside the top half. A couple of near-miss ninth positions add rather than detract from this trend.

In Valencia there is a feeling that strategy will play an equally important role as overtaking in determining the finishing order. In thirteenth position on the grid, with 694.7kg of fuel on-board, Glock is significantly heavier than every driver ahead of him and a couple of those behind him.

It is fair to say that prices reflect the Toyota’s somewhat lacklustre performance so far this weekend, but in my eyes they haven’t been setting the world alight perhaps since the opening couple of races of the season. Despite this, Glock has been getting the job done with a string of impressive drives, none more so than his thirteenth to sixth last time out in Hungary.

Odds in excess of 7/2 are available on Betfair for the German to pick up some more points this weekend and that is enough to interest me.

  2. I had a very lucky break with this at the weekend. Had planned to put £10 on him to score points through Betfair at 4.7, but had issues with my account and couldn’t manage to do it in time.

    Just as well!
