Renault Flying in Race Trim

with one comment

KubicaIf world championship points were awarded for the top-ten fastest laps of the race, rather than finishing positions, Robert Kubica would be fourth in the world championship. Prior to Monaco, he would have been just eighth. In the last three grand prix, Renault have set the second fastest lap of the race in Monaco and the fastest laps in both Turkey and Canada. The yellow car certainly flies in race trim. Continue reading…

Red Bull Return In Qualifying

with 4 comments

Red BullsSaturdays in 2010 have been all about one team. Although Lewis Hamilton may have taken pole position last time out in Canada, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel still managed second and third on the grid, despite opting to qualify on the harder compound tyre. For me, that is hardly a crashing fall from the the form that has seen them dominate Q3 so far this season; taking all of the previous seven pole positions. Continue reading…

Strategy Points to Glock

with 4 comments

Timo Glock has made up a net forty-nine positions in ten Grand Prix so far this season. This has been achieved through a strategy of qualifying outside of the top-ten, fuelling heavily and then picking off rivals as they stop for fuel. Continue reading…

Super Sutil to strike in Spain

leave a comment »

A bit rushed for time… but BlueSq’s 2/1 for Adrian Sutil to make Q3 here in Valencia looks like an error to me. Forget about him topping the time-sheet in the interrupted FP3, he was also bang in contention in both FP1 and FP2. This indicates that the performance step that he mentioned in previewing the race is really effective around here. Even when looking at the ‘ideal’ lap times that drivers have been able to post in practice – stringing together their best three sectors – Sutil has been inside the top six in every session.

Points to Prove?

with 4 comments

Nobody truly knows how the inaugural race in Valencia will pan out; however most seem to be speculating that it will be incident-packed. A safety car appearance is long odds-on, whilst the betting would also indicate that we should expect to see in the region of six retirements. Several drivers, strategists and team principals have also indicated that planning for a safety car has entered their thoughts. Continue reading…

Not Just the Fastest Lap

leave a comment »

The Fastest Lap market is one that Kimi Raikkonen has dominated again this season. Seven fastest laps in eleven races shows that he has had the speed that belies his championship position. Not surprisingly the bookmakers have him heavy favourite to set the Fastest Lap again here in Valencia. Continue reading…

Valencia Qualifying Value

with one comment

I’ll be taking it softly-softly this weekend, as the F1 circus moves onto a new venue in Valencia for the European Grand Prix. For all that the track is billed as a ‘street circuit’, the simulations and footage I have seen thus far, remind me more of Albert Park in Melbourne than Monte Carlo, and for that reason, I think we can look forward to a reasonably wide-open race. As far as wagering goes, I’m going to stick with Qualifying at this stage, and have a few small punts on three of the less obvious candidates. Continue reading…
