The starting point for any Monaco GP betting is the Safety Car. Not only its appearance, but the influence that it will have on the race. One common mistake that people make is assuming that the Safety Car is omnipresent at Monaco. In fact it has only been deployed seven times in the last twelve years and in just five of those twelve races.

The old adage states that you can’t win the race at the first corner, but you can lose it. With the prospect of a processional race ahead of them, I just wonder how many drivers will remember this tomorrow. We are reaching that point where establishing supremacy both within your team and with your rivals can set the tone for the rest of season. Will some drivers think that it is time to gamble?

China: A Red Revolution?

One week later and we are in the familiar position of having Hamilton and Raikkonen together on the front row, facing a drag down to turn one. Surely Hamilton will favour caution this time around? However with Bet365 having slashed their prices and the track layout not as favourable, betting on Raikkonen to lead after the first lap is not attractive as it was in Japan.

F1 moves straight on to historic Monza this weekend, where the recent record of pole sitters is catching my eye. Reliability for all teams has been strong for all teams in 2008 and with the recent trend at Monza it seems likely to continue. See the data sheet for more details.

Points to Prove?

Nobody truly knows how the inaugural race in Valencia will pan out; however most seem to be speculating that it will be incident-packed. A safety car appearance is long odds-on, whilst the betting would also indicate that we should expect to see in the region of six retirements. Several drivers, strategists and team principals have also indicated that planning for a safety car has entered their thoughts.

Hungary: Early Prices

The markets are still forming in advance of Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix so I’ve been scouting around on oddschecker for some early value.

It’s All About Kimi

Hamilton’s blinding pole-position lap yesterday should have been the sole headline-generator from the weekend so far; but plenty is being made too of the struggles that Kimi Raikkonen is again having with the Hockenheimring circuit. With the markets being comprehensively shaken up after qualifying, I think that there are opportunities for money to be made from the Finn.

German Grand Prix Data Sheet

A slightly abridged data sheet this week, taking into account that the German GP isn’t always held at Hockenheim these days and that the track layout was significantly modified after 2001.  Early thoughts are that it is no surprise to see the majority of bookmakers odds-on about a Kimi fastest lap.
